CAMRA is an independent national consumer organisation. Membership is open to all individuals; pubs and breweries and similar organisations may not join although individual publicans and staff are more than welcome. Apart from a small professional staff at CAMRA HQ in St Albans, all those who work for CAMRA are unpaid volunteers giving up their free time. CAMRA exists to protect the interests of the drinker and to protect an important part of our national heritage. CAMRA's stated aims are to:
This work involves taking an interest in a wide variety of areas, including brewing, pub design, and licensing. CAMRA actively campaigns in all of these areas; CAMRA is not a drinking club. CAMRA is organised into regions, and then each region into branches. At this local level, we are the Lichfield, Sutton and Tamworth Branch. The area we cover is basically from Rugeley in the north-west to Ridge Lane in the south-east and from Junction 11 of the M42 in the north-east to the Chester Rd/Water Orton/Coleshill in the south-west. We include not only Lichfield, Sutton and Tamworth but Rugeley, Burntwood, Shenstone, Coleshill and Atherstone plus a myriad of villages all around. If you are a member of CAMRA and you live in this area you are also a member of the Lichfield, Sutton and Tamworth Branch. The Lichfield, Sutton and Tamworth Branch of CAMRA holds two monthly meetings open to all members. One for branch business the other for beer festival organisation. There are also regular events such as pub crawls or brewery visits. We also publish a newsletter six times a year and organise the annual Tamworth Beer Festival every September. If you're a member, why not come and join in? If you're not a member why not join.
