There is, very reasonably, a lot of talk about pubs in these pages. This
is as it should be, because CAMRA believes that the environment in which
real ale is served (that is, the pub), is just as important as the real
ale itself. There is very little point in having the best real ale,
cider, or perry served in an awful pub, and there is very little point
in having a wonderful pub that serves only pasteurised rubbish. But it
is, of course, not absolutely necessary to go to a pub to drink some
real ale ...
This
corner of our site is dedicated to Real Ale in a Bottle (often known as
RAIB), or Bottle Conditioned Ales (you guessed it, that's BCA). These
are beers that are brewed in the traditional way, are bottled, and are
then allowed to ferment again in the bottle, just like real ale
fermenting again in the cask. They are, therefore, real ale and are so
much better than the other pasteurised bottled beers.
